Rhinoplasty or nose surgery is one of the most common surgical procedures. No wonder, because…
... the nose gives the face personality. Unfortunately, it is not always the case that the nose flatters the proportions. If the nose is relatively large, too wide or has an unsightly hump, the overall appearance of the face can be disturbed. Affected patients often suffer greatly from their nose.
A surgical nose correction (=rhinoplasty) can help.
Rhinoplasty surgery – what can be improved?
Improvement of the shape of the nose can be achieved by removing humps, narrowing the bridge of the nose, shaping and raising the tip of the nose and shortening or lengthening the nose.
Ventilation problems caused, for example, by a curvature of the nasal septum can be corrected in the same procedure. The architecture of the nose is an interplay of various cartilages, bones, connective tissue and the overlying skin.
A change to just one component always has consequences for all other parts of the nose. This is why a nose correction or nose surgery is very complex. It requires a lot of experience.
Surgery on the nose is usually performed under general anesthesia. This guarantees maximum comfort for both the patient and the surgeon.
Nose correction with surgery – synonyms & principle
synonyms: classic nose correction with surgery, rhinoplasty, septorhinoplasty (if the septum is corrected in the same operation)
principle: more harmony of the nose by changing angles, removing a hump (volume reduction) or filling defects (volume addition)
is sometimes combined with…
- chin implant (to improve the profile)
- autologous fat (for volume building e.g. in the area of the root of the nose
- hyaluronic acid (after an operation for fine optimization)
efficiency
Basically, there are many possibilities for change. In particular, actually reducing the size of the nose is only really possible with surgery.
Common goals of rhinoplasty with surgery are:
- hump removal
- refinement of the nasal tip region
- Reduction of the nose in general
- Loss of harmony & proportions of the nose
But not everything is feasible & sensible!
- Very large to very small is – at least at one time – only possible and useful to a limited extent (function!)
- The nose must still fit the face after surgery
treatment duration
On average, a nose correction with surgery takes 2 hours, if more complex also longer.
repetition of the treatment
Basically, a nose correction by surgery is only performed once.
However, nose correction with surgery is generally an operation that often requires a follow-up procedure.
A final result can only be seen after at least one year. However, sometimes it takes two years or more for the swelling to subside and the skin to take on its true shape.
Repeating the treatment beforehand is not necessarily recommended.
Minor additions and changes can be achieved using hyaluronic acid.

decision-making aids
Essentially, these are fundamental decisionsthat constitute a surgical nose correction.
Should I have the nose job do it at all? – Sometimes it is better not to do something at all.
Good results can also be achieved with the alternative nose correction using hyaluronic acid.
Good advice highlights all the advantages and disadvantages of a treatment – and thus helps you make the right decision.
analysis: A good plan is important for surgical nose correction. Even if certain decisions arise during the operation, a good concept and as precise an idea of the result as possible are necessary. We will normally send you standard photos of your nose - so that you can print them out at home and get creative - in other words, take a pen and just start drawing. You can't go wrong. In the follow-up consultation, we will then analyze exactly what of your wishes makes sense and is feasible - and create a joint concept. When it comes to the nose in particular, you have to know that a simulation of a possible effect is basically never 100% achievable. Simply because the nose always changes after the operation.
Possibilities & Limitations: The possibilities arise through precise analysis. However, there are certain limits. Going from very large to very small is almost impossible - and breathing problems are inevitable. My philosophy is to work out key points and concentrate on them, always based on the situation before the operation and the initial situation. Photos of celebrities etc. are not really recommended - every nose is different and so is the initial situation. You can only fail if you have such wishes.
Snub nose? - a snub nose suits some faces, but not others - a lot of things in the field of aesthetic nose surgery are to a certain extent a matter of taste - and depend on the facial environment. A nose that fits perfectly in one face does not necessarily fit perfectly in the other face and vice versa. The current ideal of beauty - which has been changing ever more rapidly recently - also plays a role.
open or closed: is always a decision that has to be made before a nose operation. With the closed technique, cuts are made inside the nose, with the open technique, there is a connecting cut in the nasal bridge.
The advantages and disadvantages are actually logical: the disadvantage of the open technique is more incision and scarring (with possible slight step formation, firmer and/or more noticeable scarring - but this is not very common). One advantage, however, is that the operation is usually more precise and clearer. Furthermore, the larger scar in the tip area often causes a certain shrinking effect of the tissue (but also the opposite - namely firmer volume-increasing scar tissue. This can also cause the nose to lose a little height - and this can either be desired - or not.
In some cases it is advisable to leave the final decision to the surgeon. In this case, for example, the procedure can begin with a closed technique and if the operation proves more difficult in terms of accuracy and visibility, the open technique can be used. It is important to discuss in detail beforehand what you as a patient want and what you do not want. There is no advantage without a disadvantage and vice versa.
Every operation is different: In my opinion, individual adjustment to the face and facial profile is crucial for maximum harmony and balance.
What should you have heard/read before having a nose job?
Follow-up treatments/interventions: Rhinoplasty is a very complex procedure - the rate of follow-up treatments or follow-up procedures is relatively high. Unrealistic expectations should be discussed before the operation. The human nose is not made of marble - where the surface could be made perfectly flat - but consists of many different hard materials and transitions (bone, hard cartilage, softer cartilage) and angles (all of which influence each other).
Alternative nose correction with hyaluronic acid: Hyaluronic acid offers a real alternative for some patients – which may be more interesting for some in terms of effort and cost.
Prejudices
everything is possible: not true…
facts
the possibilities are always limited by the existing anatomy, the existing shape, size, skin thickness, etc. For example, it is difficult for the smallest changes to the nasal cartilage to have the desired effect on the skin surface when the skin is very thick. You can imagine it like a tent frame - over which a dermis is placed - or a silk scarf for extremely fine skin. The surface will certainly always be different - depending on the covering.
most common possible side effects/complications
- irregular surface
- hardening, scars
- Asymmetry (always present on two sides to a certain extent)
- numb or changed feeling in the operated area/bridge of the nose – you almost always hear that the feeling of the bridge of the nose is no longer the same as before the operation – but it is almost never perceived as disturbing
After the initial consultation, we will release your information documents. There you will also find pictures of possible results as well as possible undesirable side effects and results. The law requires us to show you pictures. The pictures of complications come from different sources. Even the best surgeon in the world can never rule out undesirable side effects. If something seems strange to you after your operation, please contact us. contact immediately with your surgeon. Many problems could be avoided if you can react in time.
If necessary, you can also find out more about side effects and undesirable results online: more pictures can be found online, for example on U-tube in series such as BOTCHED.
However, with appropriate preparation, planning and execution, aesthetic operations are usually well-calculable operations.
details Information on possible complications can be found in the information documents
In summary, good preparation (information, explanation, preliminary examinations, analysis of the initial situation and the options, etc.) and the experience of the surgeon are important factors for the success of a surgical nose correction.
You should avoid…
- unrealistic wishes and role models
- short cuts at any price (sometimes an open technique simply makes more sense for greater precision, especially if a volume or height reduction is planned anyway)
anesthesia
Possible anesthesiaforms for surgical nose correction are possible
- local anesthesia (for minor corrections, e.g. in the tip area)
- twilight sleep
- general anesthesia (most common for us)
the operation
Deadlines must be met in Austria (surgical information and anesthesia information) – this means that there is a waiting period of at least 3-4 weeks from the decision to undergo breast enlargement, but often longer.
We will inform you if a psychological report may be necessary before your surgery.
Precise but also realistic ideas of a possible outcome are important.
Clarifying possible alternatives such as nose correction with hyaluronic acid
the operation
We recommend a night on site with supervision
On the first day after the operation, the nasal packing is removed (usually much less painful than everyone thinks)
Rest for 3 weeks in the sense of:
- do not lift more than 5-6kg
- no jerky activities
- don't work headfirst
nasal bridge splint for about 10 days
then Steristrips for a few more days
Swelling is a special issue in nose surgery:
- the first swelling reaches its peak around the 2nd/3rd/4th day after the operation, but the worst is usually over after about 10 days (with removal of the nasal bridge splint) - decongestant tablets and ice can have a positive effect on the swelling during this time
- Residual swelling can remain for many months, sometimes even 1-2 years - this can also be caused by firmer scar tissue - the introduction of cortisone or softening enzymes may be useful. In any case, patience is always required and a final result is often only available after 1-2 years.
our preferred technique/recommendation
- open or closed (on average more often closed in our case) – depending on the individual case
- less is often more - setting priorities and priorities
- anesthesia-sparing general anesthesia
Cost
from 6500 surgical nose correction including anesthesia
400 overnight stay at the clinic with nurse/450 for overnight stay from Friday to Saturday
500-8500 possible additional effort complexity, septum correction, etc. (depending on extent)
minus consultation costs
possible costs for anesthesia information (approx. 80)
70 optional special price recommended scar ointment + disinfectant spray (regular after surgery 103)
The prices listed are average values and could be cheaper or more expensive. The final total price will be determined during the second consultation (=consent) depending on the individual effort/planned operation time, combinations, desired clinic/room category and other factors.
At the turn of the year, clinic prices are adjusted and may then be slightly higher.
reasonable budget/alternative treatments
A nose operation is a relatively complex operation that almost always requires anesthesia. This determines the price. - Depending on the complexity, additional costs may arise.
If the budget is limited and the treatment really makes sense, a nose correction with hyaluronic acid can be a much cheaper alternative.
A final cost estimate is only possible and meaningful after a detailed on-site inspection and clarification of individual wishes.
downtime
In general, 2-3 weeks of rest be taken into account – this means specifically:
- lifting no more than 5-6 kg
- no jerky movements
- do not perform any activities overhead
socially acceptable Normally you will be there after approx. 2 weeks. Women often find it easier to wear make-up. Residual swelling is an issue for many months
