The excess volume is removed immediately (the maximum possible effect of liposuction per region is approximately 70-80%).

A certain tightening effect is also always achieved through liposuction (approx. 10-20% tighter surface)

It is important not to overdo the liposuction. It is of no use if the volume is less but the skin sags. Here, a compromise must always be found. Once a certain degree of volume has been reduced, additional tightening of the excess skin is necessary.

Good advice highlights all the advantages and disadvantages of an operation – and thus helps you make the right decision.

Volume: Theoretically, up to 70-80% of the fat cells can be suctioned out in one region. How much is actually suctioned out is often sensibly decided during the operation itself. It is not uncommon for the surgeon to have to estimate how well the tissue will tighten and settle after the operation, or when the volume reduction needs to stop so that there is no excess skin left - which then sags. Often it is more about modeling or redistributing contours than about the amount of fat actually suctioned out. In some regions (below the buttocks) too much can also have a negative effect and cause the buttocks to tip downwards. Once a certain amount has been reached (a sign for the surgeon may be that the suctioned out fat is becoming increasingly bloody), suction should be stopped to avoid risking complications, particularly in terms of thrombosis, circulation, etc. - safety first! If in doubt, it is better to have a second operation or additions such as fat freezing - than to take unnecessary risks.

Surface: the surface of the skin is never even or flat. This is especially true if volume has been reduced in a region, which normally fills the skin from the inside and thereby tightens it. For this reason alone, the amounts of suction should not be exaggerated. Dimples are theoretically always possible, but can normally be avoided as much as possible. Multiple suction directions per region (but also means more skin punctures or scars) create as uniform a surface as possible through the different suction directions.

Where should the cut = scar best placed?

Bring your favorite underwear/bikini with you to your liposuction. Then the stitches, which are usually only a few millimeters in size, can be hidden as best as possible underneath and adjusted to fit. The small mini incisions are often distributed differently on the left and right to make them less noticeable.

compression garments is an important part of the overall success after liposuction! It should be worn as much as possible for about 5-6 weeks after the operation to support the surface during application and to reduce swelling and bruising.

What should you have heard/read before liposuction?

Asymmetry: is not possible before liposuction and is basically not possible afterward either. This is due to the differences in height of the skeleton, followed by muscles and also fatty tissue, which only forms a part of the whole.

Dents: can never be ruled out, but is usually rare. However, there are options during the procedure (e.g. fat tissue transfer) to improve noticeable depressions. Dimples can also be improved with a follow-up procedure. However, body surfaces are never completely flat.

Prejudices

Fat freezing and liposuction are the same  … of course not true

facts

The methods differ fundamentally:

Whatever ends up in the suction container during liposuction is removed forever and will not grow back. Experience shows that the effectiveness is up to 70-80% fat tissue reduction. Another advantage of liposuction is the ability to actually model the surface - to specifically reduce certain areas and thereby shape the contour or even out differences.

When freezing fat, the effect is based on the cold stimulus, which can have a greater or lesser effect on the tissue. From my own experience, I would estimate the effectiveness at around 10-15% (or, if you want to put it more harshly, 0-20% - zero effect is very unlikely, but if it is only a few percent, it can look to the patient as if nothing has happened) - the effect is also not controllable or predictable for the practitioner. There is also no direct way of modeling the surface.

Therefore, the methods are simply not comparable.

In summary, good preparation (information, explanation, preliminary examinations, assessment of tissue strength, contour analysis, etc.), and the surgeon’s experience are important factors for the success of liposuction

You should avoid…

• exceeding a certain volume per procedure: then the rate of complications increases significantly (but up to that point liposuction is very easy to calculate and usually safe). That is why, in my opinion, it makes no sense to promise a certain amount before the operation - the amount that can be safely removed is partly decided during the operation
  
• few accesses at any price (after an operation, a good surface contour & shape is always more important than the number of accesses and small scars)

• Local anesthesia
• twilight sleep
• general anesthesia

Depending on the number of regions, anxiety, pain sensitivity, and cost expectations, the best form of anesthesia should be determined individually before the procedure

Deadlines must be met in Austria (surgical information and anesthesia information) – this results in a waiting period of at least 3-4 weeks from the decision to undergo liposuction, but often longer.

It makes sense to adjust and order compression garments, then you can start wearing the compression garments on the day of the operation or at the latest the day after the operation.

Rest for 3 weeks in the sense of:

• do not lift more than 5-6kg
• nothing jerky
• don't work headfirst

Wear the compression garment for 5-6 weeks approximately 24 hours a day (that is, as much as possible, but breaks in between are of course possible)

Showering is permitted and even encouraged from the first postoperative day to reduce germs and clean wounds

Often the small stitches are only glued. Otherwise, a check and removal of the stitches after a few days may be useful (decided on a case-by-case basis).

The prices listed are average values and could be cheaper or more expensive. The final total price will be determined during the second consultation (=consent) depending on the individual effort/planned operation time, combinations, desired clinic/room category and other factors.
