Fat freezing cryoliposculpting – what happens?
During fat freezing or cryoliposculpting, body tissue is cooled in a controlled manner. The cooling process Blood supply to fat cells is reduced. This means that up to 25% of the fat cells are subsequently broken down. The breakdown of the fat cells begins immediately after the treatment, and a visible reduction in the fat deposits can be observed after just three weeks. best results show themselves after one to three months.
Cooling down to the target temperature takes only a few minutes during fat freezing cryolipoculpting. During this time, sensations such as pulling, pinching, tingling or stabbing This is completely normal and is caused by the cold and will subside as soon as the treated area becomes numb. From now on you can sit back and relaxWe recommend that you bring magazines, newspapers or a good book with you, as the treatment session lasts about 1-2 hours.
What are the advantages?
No anesthesia is necessary. No scars are left (although frostbite and pigment changes are theoretically possible).
What are the disadvantages?
Even if the treatment is repeated several times, the volume reduction ends at around 40%. For large areas, fat freezing cryolipoculpting is time-consuming and expensive.
Fat Freezing – Synonyms & Principle
Synonyms and terms: Cryotherapy, cryotherapy, fat freezing, cryolipolysis, cryolipolysis, cryoliposculpting, cryotherapy, cryotherapy, fat reduction without surgery
Examples of devices/companies: fusiomed, Coolsculpting (available through our partner practice upon request)
principle:
(partial heating by high frequency energy – 60°C = Cryoliposculpting) and then Cool the fat cells -10°C and the resulting lipolysis (=partial breakdown and metabolism of fat cells over several weeks after the treatment)
Cryoliposculpt: During the LipoMelt cycle, controlled deep heat is released - this triggers a strong lipolysis (=partial death of the fat cells). The subsequent LipoIce cycle causes a controlled cooling and crystallization of the fat cells. Crystallized fat cells gradually die and are broken down naturally by your body. And in the weeks and months after the treatment, the remaining fat cells are tightened, resulting in a reduced fat layer.

efficiency
I would classify the effectiveness as around 10% fat cell reduction per treatment (zero to 20% if you want to put it more harshly). Even with repetition (usually a maximum of 3 treatments per area is advisable), you will ideally achieve no more than 30-40% fat cell reduction.
And that is also the difference to the certainly more effective method of liposuction. Here, a reduction of fat cells of up to 80% per treatment is possible.
Cryoliposculpt is more effective for thicker fat layers than for slim patients
little to no effect on nerves, muscles and bones
treatment duration
per area (approx. palm size) 1 hour
repetition of the treatment
in many cases only one treatment is necessary
up to 3x possible for maximum effect
Application in which body region
Problem areas such as stomach, hips, etc.
decision-making aids
Essentially, these are fundamental decisionswhich involve fat reduction through fat freezing (cryoliposculpting).
Should I have fat freezing/cryoliposculpting do it at all? – Sometimes it is better not to do something at all.
Good advice highlights all the advantages and disadvantages of an operation – and thus helps you make the right decision.
amount of reduction
is limited
Cost
can exceed those of liposuction if multiple treatments are performed on several regions. Therefore, a detailed assessment by a specialist is advisable in order to create a suitable concept before starting any treatment.
Expense
Fat freezing can quickly become more time-consuming if many regions and repetitions are planned
There is usually no downtime during fat freezing, but there may still be some limitations due to bruises or irritated, oversensitive areas.
Depending on the amount of fat and the number of regions involved, liposuction requires a downtime of a few days. After that, you can slowly start doing activities that don't require a lot of physical exertion. For example, if you work in an office, you'll be able to start working again 1-2 days after the operation.
risks
Fat freezing is not without risk either:
- the method works with great cold – frostbite can therefore never be completely ruled out – that is why I always do a tissue check a few minutes after the start of treatment to check the tissue for compatibility.
- bruises, swelling
- irritated, reddened tissue – always occurs to some degree
- numbness or hypersensitive areas can occur for a few days, weeks, theoretically even permanently
Normally, however, fat freezing is definitely not a problem.
The same applies to liposuction – if large amounts are not removed and the concept is right, liposuction is easy to calculate.
What should you have heard/read before fat freezing?
efficiency – this is normally not comparable to that of liposuction.
Prejudices
Fat freezing makes liposuction unnecessary
facts
Fat freezing is theoretically applicable in most cases, but it is not an equivalent alternative to liposuction. In my opinion, fat freezing is only recommended for specific indications.
possible side effects/complications
- skin redness, skin irritation
- bruises, swelling
- numbness, change in surface sensation after treatment (sometimes hypersensitive)
- pigment change
- theoretically frostbite
- too little (but more than a certain effect is simply not to be expected) to no effect
details Information on possible complications can be found in the information documents
Honest information about the possibilities, serious education, professional tissue analysis are important factors for the success of fat freezing therapy
You should avoid…
- too high expectations regarding the results of fat freezing
- not to think about the tried and tested liposuction (which is also easy to calculate)
anesthesia
not necessary
The cooling of the tissue simultaneously numbs the area. The first 1-2 minutes are rather unpleasant for some patients due to the suction on the tissue. After that, however, the cold numbness sets in and the method is painless to minimal
the treatment
do not take anything blood-thinning until 7 days before treatment
the treatment
- light massage of the treated tissue in the first days after treatment
- sun protection in the area of the treated and irritated areas during the first few weeks
our preferred technique/recommendation
- precise analysis of wishes and goals
- good treatment plan
- plan enough time and take a book etc. with you
Cost
Guidelines:
500 Cryoliposcultping first treated region
450 Cryoliposcultping each additional region
reasonable budget
A final cost estimate is only possible and meaningful after a detailed on-site inspection and clarification of individual wishes.
downtime
Generally no restrictions. Normally no real rest necessary
Important to know…
Do not have excessive expectations of the method. Fat freezing is best suited when liposuction would only achieve a volume reduction of about 20% due to the risk of excess skin and sagging. In any case, honest professional advice is recommended.
Patients who have a good basic figure but small areas of excess fat are well suited.
The treatment is not an alternative to a diet or a healthy lifestyle.
The method (like classic liposuction) is not a method for weight reduction.
