A lip flip with Botox is the perfect solution for optical lip enlargement – without additional volume…

Perfectly shaped, plump lips are a beauty ideal that still exists today. Unfortunately, only very few people are naturally blessed with such beautiful and full kissable lips - which is why treatments with lip fillers and plumping beauty products are in great demand. The hope is that such treatments will produce the most natural result possible - after all, nobody wants to walk around with gigantic inflatable lips these days. This is exactly what the new Lip Flip technique offers. With Lip Flip, the active ingredient Botox is not injected into the lips themselves like with other filling substances, but just above the upper lip edge. The muscle-relaxing effect of Botox causes the upper lip to turn inside out slightly - or flip up. Hence the name of the treatment: lip flip.

Full, youthful lips are always in fashion! And lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid is one of the most common treatments. But not everyone who wants to make their lips appear larger necessarily wants more volume. If you want a very subtle effect, or perhaps only an effect that lasts for a few months - then lip flipping with Botox is exactly what you need. Here are the most important details and questions about it:

1

What is a lip flip?

The most common ampoule used in our practice is 1ml hyaluronic acid. This corresponds to a gentle accentuation. It is important to keep the aesthetics of the lips in mind. The upper lip should never be larger than the lower lip.

For some lips, 2-3 ml is enough if it suits the type.

If only half an ampoule is used, many patients come back after 1-2 weeks after the swelling has gone down. The swelling was just right. Without it, it is usually exactly 1/4 to 1/2 an ampoule too little.

But when in doubt, always use less. More is easier than getting rid of too much volume.

2

How does a lip flip work?

During a lip flip, small amounts of Botox are injected into the mouth muscle - which surrounds the mouth - just above the lip border. By slightly relaxing the muscle, the upper lip rolls upwards slightly, making the lip appear more defined and a little more voluminous. In addition, muscle relaxation can improve vertical fine lines (so-called barcode lines). Most patients notice an initial effect after a few days, with maximum effect after 1-2 weeks. The effect of the lip flip lasts for about 4 months.

3

Botox Lip Flip or Hyaluronic Filler?

The Botox Lip Flip is not a substitute for a lip treatment with hyaluronic acid. A precise analysis of your lip shape, your individual needs and wishes will influence the decision regarding Botox or hyaluronic acid.

You will probably be happier with the Botox Lip Flip:

  • if you want to "raise" the lip a little
  • if you feel that your lips are too thin, especially when you smile
  • if you want fuller lips, but without additional volume
  • if you prefer a shorter effect of about 3-4 months

You will probably be happier with more volume through hyaluronic acid:

  • if you want more volume in the upper lip and/or lower lip
  • if deeper transverse wrinkles around the lips are an issue
  • if you want to improve the symmetry and general shape of your lips
  • if you prefer a longer effect of about 9-12 months

In some cases, a combination of Botox and hyaluronic acid can also be useful. For very thin lips, a slight lifting of the upper lip with Botox combined with more lip volume can produce the perfect result.

4

How much does a lip flip with Botox cost?

It always depends on the amount of Botox needed. A treatment usually costs around €200.

However, the treatment usually has to be carried out 2-3 times more often than the treatment with hyaluronic acid.

5

How do I get a natural result with a Botox Lip Flip?

Even though it may sound simple to treat the lips with Botox and thereby make them appear larger, it takes a lot of experience, sensitivity and good anatomical knowledge to achieve the best possible effect for a lip flip. Therefore, you should only turn to qualified and experienced practitioners with the appropriate experience.

An overdose can quickly lead to unwanted side effects and prevent normal lip movement. For example, you may not be able to whistle or drink through a straw until the excess Botox is broken down again if too much was injected or the drug was applied in the wrong place.
