lip injections with Teosyal Kiss – our recommendation for the treatment of the lips with hyaluronic acid

Every lip is unique. Therefore, the treatment with hyaluronic acid should be carried out as individually and precisely as possible. The material is also important, of course.

Our first recommendation in the area of the lips is Teosyal RHA Kiss from Teoxane, which was specially developed for fine corrections in the lip area. In our experience, the hyaluronic acid in Teoxyal RHA Kiss is distributed very precisely and is also ideal for delicate corrections in the sensitive lip area.

Celebrities and beauty bloggers have made plumped, full lips and a perfect kissable mouth a hype. Hollywood and influencers post about how easy it is to plump up lips with hyaluronic acid. But that's not always the case...

Beauty expert and plastic surgeon Dr. Peter Durnig provides information on important questions regarding the treatment with hyaluronic acid in the lip area…and what you should pay attention to:

What amount of hyaluronic acid is right for my lips?

The most common treatment in our practice is one ampoule = 1ml hyaluronic acid used. This corresponds to a gentle emphasis. It is important to keep the aesthetics of the lips in mind. The upper lip should never be larger than the lower lip. For some lips, 2-3 ml is also suitable if it suits the type.

If only half an ampoule is used, many patients come back after 1-2 weeks after the first swelling subsides. The swelling was just right. Without it, it is usually exactly 1⁄4 to 1/2 an ampoule too little. But if in doubt, always use less. More is easier than getting rid of too much volume.

Will lip treatment with hyaluronic acid hurt?

The lip is naturally very sensitive. We combine a special anesthetic ointment with repeated ice cooling and a local anesthetic as an addition to the hyaluronic acid. This means that the longer the treatment lasts, the less painful it becomes.

If all these measures are combined, the treatment should be as painless as possible.

If you are particularly sensitive to pain, you can take a painkiller 1-2 hours before the treatment (just please don't take anything that thins the blood!)

How long does the swelling last after a lip treatment with hyaluronic acid?

After a lip treatment with hyaluronic acid The swelling usually only lasts a few days. The swelling can reach its maximum around the third day - and after about a week the worst should be over. A certain amount of residual swelling can remain for several weeks. A result can usually be expected after 2-3 weeks.

Which lip shape is the most beautiful?

Always the one that fits the face most harmoniously. The relationship between the upper lip and the lower lip is important. The upper lip should never have more volume than the lower lip if you want to convey an aesthetic overall impression. You may like it yourself, but the upper lip ratio is definitely in the range of 1:1 to 1:2. In any case, the upper lip should never be larger! Even from the side, the lower lip should play the main role. Therefore, I recommend adding volume to the upper lip at the bottom as well. The desired shape of the lips is discussed and analyzed in detail before treatment. You know very precisely in advance which direction the treatment will take.

And what is the best way to distribute the hyaluronic acid?

As already mentioned, the lower lip should definitely play the main role. The exact distribution ratio is always a question of personal taste, region, and nowadays even (whether you like it or not) current fashion or trends. A precise analysis and discussion before treatment is important!

Lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid – which hyaluronic acid is best for the lips?

There are many manufacturers of hyaluronic acid with a wide range of different products: from cheap to the corresponding price. From better tolerated (the quality is generally getting better) to less well tolerated. From short to long shelf life. I usually use classic hyaluronic acid diluted with local anesthesia, with a shelf life of around a year. Too soft doesn't hold its shape as well, long-lasting is usually too firm for the lips. Quality pays off. That usually has its price. But durability and tolerability usually indicate good quality.

Lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid – How long does the hyaluronic acid last in the lips?

This can vary from product to product. We use and recommend medium-firm hyaluronic acid, which has a shelf life of around one year.

When can I wear lipstick again?

Actually, just a few minutes after the treatment – at least as soon as the minor bleeding has stopped.

It's best not to do too much straight afterward - just cool down a bit and take it easy. But you can basically do everything on the same day and normally go out in the evening.

Is your own fat an alternative to hyaluronic acid for lip volume?

Not really. Your own fat is too coarse for such a delicate region as the lips and especially the lip edge. The ability to always adjust the volume perfectly to the current situation and desire is definitely an advantage. The moisture component is also an additional plus with hyaluronic acid. Your own fat can be useful for a certain basic volume. In terms of fineness, hyaluronic acid is superior.
