What anesthesia is used?
This is decided in consultation with the surgeon and anesthetist. We offer you a twilight sleep or a gentle general anesthesia as well as a local anesthesia Each form of anesthesia has certain advantages and disadvantages. After gynecomastia surgery in Klagenfurt, an overnight stay is usually not necessary.
You should be there for 3-4 hours after a twilight sleep before you can go home again.
After a local anesthetic, you will remain at the hospital for about half an hour. If you feel well, you will then be ready to be discharged.
On day after surgery there is a control with dressing change.
A further check is scheduled after about a week and a final check after about 3 months.
How big is the incision and the scar?
In pseudogynecomastia, there is no solid glandular tissue. In this case, a few small stitches are usually sufficient to suction out fatty tissue in the breast area.
In the case of classic gynecomastia, suction with small stitches may be sufficient. If the glandular tissue is too hard, an additional incision may be necessary to sufficiently remove the glandular tissue.
If there is also excess skin, an incision around the nipple may be necessary.
The ideal choice of incision often depends on the course of the operation. Possible incisions, including their advantages and disadvantages, will be discussed with you in detail before the operation.
Do stitches need to be removed after the operation?
We use self-dissolving sutures. After about 10 days, an inspection is carried out to see where the sutures above the surface are shortened.
How long should I rest after gynecomastia surgery in Klagenfurt, Carinthia?
You should take it easy for 2-3 weeks. With sensitivity and common sense, you will usually be able to take it easy enough. The basic rule is: do not lift more than 5kg, do not make any sudden movements, do not work overhead.
But you are not sick, which means you should move around. The operated area should be protected, however. When lying down, turning to the left and right is permitted and advisable. Otherwise, you risk back pain if you just lie on your back with cramps. Obviously, you should not lie on the operated area or the surgical wound itself.
For the first few days, you should walk slightly bent over and take the pressure off the operated abdominal area. Wearing a special corset is recommended for 5-6 weeks. The corset/compression garment should be worn for approximately 24 hours (including at night).
After gynecomastia surgery, a corset for 5-6 weeks as many as possible should be worn.
